Metis-Crossing

metis_trapper_tents_2_largeCanada’s first and only major Métis Cultural Centre is located in Smoky Lake County along the Victoria Trail just off Highway 855. Métis Crossing is a major initiative of the Métis Nation of Alberta. The mission is to be a premiere centre for Alberta Métis cultural interpretation, education, gatherings, and business development. The 512-acre site will be designed to engage and excite visitors. The programming will encourage active participation of visitors in activities that promote an appreciation of our people, customs, and celebrations.

Métis Crossing shares the story of their evolving culture. In the historic village, costumed Métis interpreters will share the story of life in this community during the latter part of the 1800s. In other areas, fiddling, jigging, and riding in red river carts will all be part of the experience! Visitors will even roll up their sleeves to make bannock or scrape a hide.
Still in its infancy phases, Métis Crossing will grow to be an important cultural gathering and learning place, an essential educational resource for schools, and a major tourism destination.

RV Sites & campground (21 sites with power, 20 tenting sites, firewood & showers, guided site tours, picnic facilities, RV parking, hiking trails and a new Zipline.
