CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
Cooking Lake – Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area
100 + km of cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails. 65 km are trackset, 35 km more are packed but not trackset, plus ungroomed trails. Home of the Canadian Birkebeiner – North America’s largest classic x-country ski race held the second weekend in February annually. Vermilion Provincial Park is the hometown of x-country skiing Olympic Gold Medalist Beckie Scott, where you can enjoy 15 km of groomed trails.

Elk Island National Park

Maintains 8 trails for x-country skiing plus 2 trails for snowshoeing. (90+ km total trails). Winter is an excellent time for wildlife viewing. Each year, several trails are groomed for x-c skiing; visitors are welcome to set their own tracks on other trails. Snowshoeing is recommended on Lakeview and Amisk Wuche trails.

Strathcona Wilderness Centre

12 km of groomed & track set trails. Rent complete x-country ski and snowshoe equipment for all ages. Ski lessons are available along with waxing services and a food concession and lounge area.

DOWNHILL SKIING

 

Long Lake Ski Hill

With good layout & interesting terrain, it offers up to 100 meters of vertical lift on its 11 downhill runs with a tow rope and T-bar lifts. It operates weekends and all holidays except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Rentals of the latest technology in ski equipment are available for all ages.  A great family ski hill.

Located 38 km north of Waskatenau on Hwy 881, east on Long Lake Rd to turnoff. Watch for signs.
