Whether its leisure or adventure you’re looking for, Thorhild County has it all! Half Moon Lake Natural Area offers rustic trails and a scenic little campground. Encompassing a variety of habitats that support an abundance of wildlife, Long Lake Provincial Park is a very popular family camping destination. Popular Northern Ridge Golf Resort features antique machinery on its course. Nearby, there are trail rides and a paintball park open in the summer.
In the winter months, you can take in the scenery along the snowmobile trails...or make fast tracks in the snow at Long Lake Ski Area, it is a great family ski hill open December to April.
Directly south of Long Lake, White Earth Valley Natural Area is a naturalists gem for hiking, mountain biking and trail riding, or snowmobiling and nordic skiing in winter. Take a scenic drive on the Historic Victoria Trail which runs through the county near the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. Nearby anglers are always welcome at the Radway Fish Pond.
Just a short drive from Thorhild or Long Lake Provincial Park, Newbrook Community Fair and Chuckwagon Days is a popular event held in late June. Newbrook was once known for the former Newbrook Observatory which captured the first North American photograph of the world’s first satellite - Sputnik - No. 1 on October 9, 1957.
Located just off Highway 28, the quiet community of Egremont comes alive at the annual Egremont Days Parade in June where the whole community gets involved.
Of course, there’s also lots to see and do on a leisurely country drive...old churches, homesteads and numerous greenhouses, diversified farms, and unique operations throughout the County. Whichever way you like to relax and recharge your batteries, Thorhild County awaits your discovery.
