Other Attractions in Camrose:
1. The Bill Fowler Visitor Information Centre has 4 note-worthy attractions inside and around it:
a. A 27 foot replica Viking longship is the centerpiece display inside the VIC. It was constructed by a boat-builder visiting from Hardanger, Norway and several volunteers from Augustana U of A and within the City.
b. The exterior entrance wall to Mirror Lake Park and the VIC displays the "Life Around the Lake - Nature Mural" a sculpture of images of nature found in the community. In all 1050 oversized red clay bricks known as "Mirror Lake Red" were carved and shaped individually, then kiln dried and reassembled to complete the mural.
c. Mirror Lake has approximately 2.5 km paved walking trails around the lake, with beautiful flower garden, a fountain, picnic area, art scupltures, and our local trumpeter swans and polish mutes nesting along the banks.
d. The Mirror Lake Train, a 92 foot replica of a steam engine with cars hold 22 passengers for rides up and down the lake side during the summer evenings. It departs every 15 mins from the arbour on the Lake just outside the VIC.
2. The University of Alberta Augustana is one of Alberta's proudest achievements in rural education: not only does the majority of our 1000+ students come from smaller communities across the province, country and around the world, but many efforts have been made to provide educational opportunities especially for those interested in returning to rural communities to practice their professions.
- U of A Augustana hosts a huge number of student-athletes. Our athletes compete internationally and our coaches are called upon to serve Team Canada regularly.
- U of A Augustana holds regular student and faculty music concerts - vocal, choral and instrumental - as well as dramatic productions.
- The Government of Alberta has recently invested over $30 million in new facilities at Augustana University of Alberta, including a state-of-the-art library and forum.
3. Camrose sports facilities and grounds are second to none - we have attracted international, national, and provincial tournaments and events making sports tourism is a large contributor to our city.
4.Big Valley Jamboree attracts 80,000 people for the 4 day outdoor country music festival.
5. The Bailey Theatre, recently restored and now open for business, is the oldest theater in Alberta. Tours are available as well as theatre productions, music performances and classic movies.
6. Our historical downtown area has 41 commercial buildings and residental houses that have been designated historical. Several buildings on main street have been restored to their former grandeur with facade fronts.
