BONNYVILLE & DISTRICT MUSEUM
We welcome you to experience the inspiring stories and diverse history of
the Bonnyville District as you explore our thirteen buildings and
picturesque 3-acre grounds. The Bonnyville & District Museum houses an
impressive collection of artifacts relevant to the development and
settling of the Bonnyville region. A seven-meter high statue of Angus
Shaw, a late 1700s fur trader and explorer, stands for posterity's sake as
a reminder of Shaw's contribution to the fur trade in Western Canada. On
site are two churches, the Durlingville Schoolhouse, the 1920s Vallee
Store, a hospital, trapper's cabin, water tower, and a quaint, 1907 house
that typifies pioneer life as it was in the early years of settlement in
Bonnyville. Two large buildings house a large collection of early
agricultural and industrial equipment and machinery. A walk-through arch,
built by Herman Poulin, is dedicated to the French pioneers, the founders
of Bonnyville in 1907.
Located at the intersection of 54th Avenue and Highway 28 on the northeast
side of Bonnyville. Bonnyville is located 2.5 hours northeast of Edmonton,
Alberta.

LAKE CAIRN HISTORICAL SOCIETY -
The Beaver Lake Cairn was unveiled in September 2006 commemorating the
Beaver Lake School District which was in operation from 1892-1951. It
was one of the first districts between Edmonton and North Battleford,
and was once one of the busiest settlements on the South Victoria
Trail. It was the business & service centre for the area east of
Beaverhill Lake up to the Vermilion area. Vegreville & Mundare did not
exist at this time. Bronze plaques on the Cairn provide the history of
the district, lists of students, teachers and details about the
unveiling. Early settlers had important historical connections to the
development of the region. For complete details, visit the Cairn
