The Village of Ryley and it's 460 residents enjoy a tranquil, small community atmosphere just 50 minutes east of Edmonton on Highway 14. The Village is named after G. U. Ryley, a Grand Trunk Pacific Land Commissioner who surveyed the area.
Ryley's mainstreet is growing with many new businesses including a tea shop, beauty salon, pizza and donair restaurant and an Emporium with many little shops inside.
On Father's Day weekend in June the village hosts a full day of enjoyment at the Ryley Sports Day and Family Fair. With a wide variety of activities starting off with a free breakfast with your admission and a parade to follow you're sure to find something for the whole family. You are encouraged to attend.
Make a splash at the indoor swimming pool which has been newly renovated, or drop by the curling rink and watch the Bonspiels in the winter months. Come rent the beautiful community centre which is ready for any event. Go camping and then stretch your legs on a walking path made from recycled tires in the Historical Park. If you like slopitch you'll want to stop in Ryley on the September long weekend when the Ry/Tof Tournament is held.
East from mainstreet is the Ryley & District Museum. By 1909, a newspaper reported that Ryley's large creamery, owned and operated by local farmers, was making an average of 2000 pounds of first class butter per week during the summer. Learn the whole story here at the museum. Follow the decades of change for village and farm life within the walls of the museum housed in two country schools joined together. 5107 Avenue - 49 Street, open July & Aug Wed, Fri, Sat 1 pm - 5 pm or by appointment. Open during Ryley Sports Day third Sat in June. For more information phone 780-663-3653 or 780-663-3752.
The Village Market is held at the Community Centre on the first Thursday of the month from spring to fall at 10am-2pm. Mark your calendar in November and December for the Christmas markets.
