The Village of Mannville pays tribute to its past and builds culture into its future.

Mannville may be small in size, but is growing in its population, culture, recreation and recognition of its history.

Mannville is situated an hour and a half east of Edmonton and one hour west of Lloydminster at the crossroads of Yellowhead Hwy 16 and Secondary Hwy 881. Mannville was named after Sir Donald D. Mann in 1905, who was one of the partners in the contracting firm building the CNR railroad.

The first municipal hospital in the British Empire was opened at Mannville in 1919 and was the birthplace of Sir Peter Gadsden, the first Canadian Lord Mayor of London. To honour his memory, the Lord Mayor of London Day garden party is held annually the last Friday in June. Also notable, Mannville was the family home of renowned poet - Mr. Robert Service.

The first AGT building in Northern Alberta was built here in 1917. In August 2007, the Mannville Historical Society hosted the grand opening of the Mannville Historical Telephone Exchange museum in the original building fully restored. This historical resource is the only one of its kind in the province to have a working 1240 Northern Electric switchboard connected to telephones within the office and residence. (For the rest of the story, log onto www.travelalberta.com.) Open Victoria Day - Labour Day 11 am - 4 pm. Call 780-763-2304.

Other reminders of Mannville's strong history are the hand-painted wall murals, the homesteaders plaque located near the school playground, a military cenotaph in the front school yard and a World War II anti-aircraft gun memorial at the south end of Main Street.

Successful clubs in Mannville include the Highland Dancers and the Mannville & Area Performing Arts Society (M.A.P.A.S. theatre group).

On August 15, 2009, join in on the festive activities at the annual Mannville Agricultural Fair. The day begins with a pancake breakfast followed by a parade and bench show.

If your passion is golf or recreation, be sure to stop for a round at the Mannville Riverview Golf Course. The Vermilion River carves throughout the course, making it a truly scenic and memorable experience for everyone.

Follow up with a round of mini golf or visit the community gazebo.

Come experience Mannville's culture; building a strong future on its vivid history.
