Just a short 45 km drive northeast of the City of Edmonton, you will find yourself in an area of rich farmland, scenic countryside, historic communities, abundant wildlife and friendly people. Together with miles of quiet country roads and the smell of freshly cut hay, the Lamont County Region is the destination of choice for so many. While in the area be sure to visit neighboring Elk Island National Park. Stop by the Elk Island Gift Shop & Visitor Centre, just north of Hwy 16 near the main park gate, for some unique souvenirs and a complete selection of travel brochures from across the Kalyna Country region. Another must-see is the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village located along Hwy 16 at the western edge of Lamont County. These attractions are located in the Beaver Hills , a unique eco-system east of Edmonton. 

Lamont County also has a growing number of greenhouses, country gift shops and unique farm experiences just waiting to be discovered by you.

Historic and cultural experiences abound in the region; this rich spiritual heritage is second to none and can be found in every corner of the County. In fact, Lamont County has 46 churches - more per capita than anywhere else in North America and hence our title as Church Capital of North America.

Doors Open - Churches, Museums & Artists

You can enjoy this spiritual heritage firsthand when you attend Lamont County’s Doors Open event on June 6 & 7, 2009.  Over 30 churches, historic sites & museums will be open for viewing on this weekend, as well as an art show, food events and other activities throughout the County. Don’t miss it! Stop by the County office to pickup your map and a tour booklet to all the churches in the County. Copies will also be available throughout the County Region.  Co-sponsored by Kalyna Country, this is the largest Doors Open event in the whole region!
