Message from Honourable Ed Stelmach
Premier of Alberta
On behalf of the Government of Alberta, I am pleased to extend warm greetings to everyone using the official Kalyna Country website.
This province was shaped by hard-working, innovative and determined men and women from many different backgrounds. Today’s Alberta has preserved the spirit of those pioneers and remains rich in culture, tradition and history.
Kalyna Country embodies that spirit. The region derives its name from the Ukrainian word for a highbush cranberry that was an important source of food for early settlers. It is now the world’s largest ecomuseum, with an area more than three times the size of Prince Edward Island. But natural scenic beauty is only the beginning of what Kalyna Country has to offer – here you will find major attractions such as Elk Island National Park and the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, vibrant performing arts festivals and cultural events, and many unique and fascinating historic buildings.
This comprehensive website will help ensure that your time here is rewarding. Whether you have come for a long stay or are just driving through, I believe that you will thoroughly enjoy your visit to one of Alberta’s truly special places.
Welcome to Kalyna Country!
Ed Stelmach
Premier of Alberta
